Bio

Cooper joined the Allan Hancock College Men’s Basketball program as an Assistant Coach in August 2018. Cooper brings a wealth of knowledge, having coached from the high school and AAU levels all the way to the professional ranks. His primary role will be as player development coordinator but will also be responsible for recruiting, in-game management, scouting opposing teams, and supporting day-to-day operations of the Men’s Basketball program.

Prior to joining the Bulldog family, Cooper spent five seasons as lead assistant at Santa Monica College. In addition to his college coaching experience, Coach Cooper was hired by the NBA as Player Development Intern for the Los Angeles Clippers. While working with the Clippers, he assisted in individual and team workouts with players such as NBA All-Stars Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, JJ Reddick and Jamal Crawford.

Cooper is also the Sports Information Director for Allan Hancock College. He is responsible for maintaining communication and information about the athletics department, its athletes, and their many accomplishments. In addition to his role as SID, Cooper is also a part-time faculty member at AHC, teaching Health and various activity courses.

A native of the Bay Area, Cooper was a two-time 1st team All-Conference point guard for Merrill West High School, where he was inducted into the Kiwanis High School Hall of Fame. Cooper went on to play at Orange Coast College where he was an All-Conference selection and broke the Orange County record for three-pointers in a game, when he shot 10-13 against Saddleback College. Cooper continued his career at CSU-East Bay, where he was team captain and broke the Cal Pac record for single season three-point percentage with 48%. Cooper earned a bachelor's degree in Mass Communications and Media Studies from California State University, East Bay and a master’s degree in Athletic Administration and Coaching from Concordia University in Irvine. 

Cooper says his most memorable basketball moment was coaching on the floor with Kobe Bryant while demonstrating the Triangle Offense during the Kobe Bryant Basketball Academy.
