No. 13 Hancock Baseball Plays Season Opener on Thursday at Bakersfield Tournament

The Allan Hancock College baseball team opens the season ranked No.13 in the Southern California Regional Coaches poll. The Bulldogs play three games this week as part of a tournament hosted by Bakersfield College.

Hancock opens on Thursday night at 6 p.m. against Porterville which went 8-27-1 last season. Hancock split two games with Porterville last season. The Bulldogs will face College of the Sequoias, the fourth ranked team in the Northern California Regional poll, at 11 a.m. on Friday. The Giants advanced to the final four last season and finished the season 34-13.  Bakersfield will be Hancock's opponent on Saturday at 7 p.m.. The Bulldogs won both meetings with the Renegades last season.

The Bulldogs are coming off a 24-16-1 season that included the team's first Super Regional appearance in four years. Head coach Chris Stevens returns for his 14th season with the Bulldogs. Infielder Angel Guillen is Hancock's most experienced returning position player. Guillen hit .324 last season in 26 games for the Bulldogs. Lompoc High School graduate Lucas Martin will be a key member of the Hancock pitching staff. He last pitched in 2013 for Cuesta when he went 7-5 with seven complete games.
