Lampreia and Christensen Lead Bulldogs to 9-5 Win Over Cuesta

(Santa Maria, CA) Behind a four-run first inning where ten men came to the plate, the Allan Hancock College baseball team defeated Cuesta College 9-5 on Saturday afternoon at John Osborne Stadium. The Bulldogs split the home and away series with the Cougars and improved to 3-1 in Western State Conference play and 5-7 overall.  Cuesta fell to 1-1 in conference and 3-8 for the season.

Hancock wasted little time to get on the scoreboard. Colby Barrick led off with a triple to the gap and scored on a RBI-single from Colton Studebaker. After Hunter Christensen singled, Riley Joyce drove in Studebaker with a double to make it 2-0 Hancock. EJ Morris delivered a two-out, two-run single to cap the four-run frame. 

Lampreia and Christensen had three hits apiece as the Bulldogs compiled 15 hits.  Lampreia finished with three RBI. Morris, Studebaker and Ellis Gerussi-Turner had two hits each.

Henry Fienga earned the win after going the first five innings for the Bulldogs. The sophomore left-hander allowed nine hits, walked one and struck out two. He allowed three runs, but only one was earned.  Diego Rodriguez went the next 3 1/3 innings. The freshman scattered five hits and walked two. He fanned two and allowed two runs in the ninth inning. Matt Shackley closed out the win by recording the final two outs.

Hancock added a run in the third inning when Angel Guillen doubled and scored on a RBI-single from Lampreia to take a 5-2 lead. Gerussi-Turner made it 6-2 Bulldogs with a RBI-double in the fourth to drive in Studebaker. The Bulldogs added three more runs in the seventh inning, two came by way of a two-run single from Lampreia.

Cuesta scored single runs in the first, second and fourth innings against Fienga.

The Bulldogs host LA Pierce on Tuesday, Feb. 24, with first pitch in the conference game set for 2 p.m.
