Lampreia, Bischoff Carry Bulldogs to 6-1 Victory Over West Hills Coalinga

(Santa Maria, CA) Freshman third baseman Zach Lampreia had three hits and drove in two run, including one in a pivotal three-run third inning, to help the Allan Hancock College baseball team to a 6-1 win over West Hills Coalinga in a non-conference game on Tuesday. Freshman right-hander Skylar Bischoff threw seven innings in another solid start for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs won their second straight game and third in the last four games to improve to 13-19 overall. West Hills dropped to 7-23 after falling for the second time this season to Hancock. Bischoff improved to 3-1 on the season and 3-0 in his only four starts. The Righetti High School graduate scattered nine hits and one run over seven innings. He struck out four and did not walk a batter. Conner Loeppky threw two shutout innings to seal the win. He allowed two hits and walked one.

The Bulldogs took control with a three-run third inning. Carver Tippett led off the frame by reaching on an error by the second baseman. Shortstop Angel Guillen followed with a single and Tippett reached third on an error by the catcher on the play. Tippett scored on a ground ball off the bat of Ellis Gerussi-Turner that produced no outs. Colton Studebaker followed with a single to load the bases for Colby Barrick. The Santa Ynez High School graduate was hit by a pitch to force in Guillen to put Hancock ahead 2-0. Lampreia followed with a RBI-single to cap the three-run rally.

West Hils scored once in the fourth on a triple by Shawn Kelly, who later scored on a wild pitch to make it a two-run game. The Bulldogs extended their lead in the fifth when Barrick hit a two-out single and scored on a double from Lampreia to make it a 4-1 game. The Bulldogs added two more in the seventh on a RBI groundball off the bat of Riley Joyce, who delivered a walk-off home run last Saturday in the Bulldogs' 4-3 11-inning win over first place Oxnard. Justin Daraban followed with a two-out single to drive home Lampreia.

The Bulldogs and West Hills had 11 hits apiece. Studebaker, Daraban and Guillen had two hits apiece for Hancock.

After going 3 for 5, Lampreia continued his recent hot streak. The freshman has gone 21 for 45 over his last 11 games for a .467 batting average. Daraban has gone 14 for 28 and is hitting .500 over his last eight games.

Hancock returns to action on Saturday, April 18, at 1 p.m. in a Western State Conference game at Moorpark.
