No. 15 Hancock Baseball to Play West Hills in Home Opener on Tuesday at 2 p.m.

The Hancock baseball team opened the season with an 8-5 win at Bakersfield last week. The No. 15 Bulldogs will play a home and away series with West Hills College Coalinga this week. Hancock will play its home opener against the Falcons on Tuesday, Feb. 2 before heading to Coalinga on Friday, Feb. 5. Both games will start at 2 p.m.

The Bulldogs overcame a 4-3 deficit in the eighth inning at Bakersfield last Saturday. Sophomore designated hitter Tim Mahoney (St. Joseph HS) delivered a go-ahead two-run single in the eighth inning to put the Bulldogs ahead 5-3. Preseason All-American Colby Barrick (Santa Ynez HS) clubbed a RBI-double and Colton Studebaker stroked a two-run single in the ninth inning to secure the win. Studebaker finished with 3 RBI. Mahoney and sophomore first baseman Jacob Tonascia had two hits apiece. Third baseman Ryan Peinado singled, walked twice and scored three runs. Freshman left-handed pitcher Jason Terrones (Lompoc HS) earned the win with four innings of one-run ball. He struck out seven and walked two. Skylar Bischoff (Righetti HS) earned the save by recording the final two outs via the strikeout.

West Hills has opened the season with three losses, 6-4 and 9-3 to Hartnell and 16-2 at Monterey. Freshman Scott Ingle leads the team with four hits and 3 RBI in three games.
