Undefeated Hancock Baseball Hosts Bakersfield Tuesday at 2 p.m.

The Hancock baseball is off to a 3-0 start after winning a home and away series last week against West Hills College Coalinga. Hancock will play four games this week starting with a 2 p.m. home game on Tuesday, February 9 against Bakersfield. The Bulldogs will travel to College of the Canyons for a three-day tournament that starts Thursday, Feb. 11 against Canyons, the 14th ranked team in the preseason regional poll. Hancock will play San Diego Mesa on Friday at 1 p.m. before facing No. 10 Rio Hondo at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Last week, Hancock overcame an early 5-1 fifth-inning deficit to win its home opener 9-6 over West Hills. Colby Barrick (Santa Ynez HS) hit the go-ahead two-run single in a four-run seventh inning. Barrick, shortstop Zach Lampreia, and left fielder Hunter Christensen had two hits apiece. Lampreia and Barrick each had two RBI. Walker Armstrong (St. Joseph HS) earned the win with three strikeouts over two and one-third innings of shutout relief. Friday, Hancock stormed out to a 5-0 lead in the second inning and cruised to a 10-6 win at West Hills. Barrick, center fielder Colton Studebaker and third baseman Ryan Peinado (St. Joseph HS) had three hits apiece. Studebaker had two doubles and five RBI. Barrick also walked twice and stole three bases. Left-hander Jason Terrones (Lompoc HS) improved to 2-0 with two and one-third innings of relief. He allowed four hits and one run. Sophomore pitchers Chance Miranda (Righetti HS) and Skylar Bischoff (Righetti HS) combined to strikeout four in three shutout innings of relief to seal the win.

Through three games, Barrick leads the team with six hits and .462 batting average. Christensen is hitting .357 with nine RBI. Peinado is hitting .444 with six runs scored. Sophomore Jacob Tonascia is hitting .385, while sophomore Tim Mahoney (St. Joseph HS) has drive in five runs.

Bakersfield is off to a 4-1 start with its only loss coming at the hands of the Bulldogs 8-5 on Jan. 30. Hanz Harker is hitting .500 and Luis Martinez is hitting .462 with six RBI for the Renegades. Studebaker had three RBI and Mahoney had two hits and drove in two in Hancock's win over Bakersfield. 

Later in the week, Hancock will travel to College of the Canyons for three games. Canyons is off to a 3-0 start, San Diego Mesa is 0-2 and No. 10 Rio Hondo is winless in its first four games. Canyons has outscored its opponents 33 to 19 to open the season, including a 16-6 win over Rio Hondo. Second baseman Colton Burns had four hits and four RBI, while catcher Anthony Lepre had two hits and five RBI for Canyons in its 10-run win over Rio Hondo.
