Hancock Baseball Ends Season with 7-3 Win at SBCC, Ramos Improves to 9-0

Thanks to a six-run eighth inning, Isaiah Ramos improved to 9-0 as the Allan Hancock College baseball team ended the 2016 season with a 7-3 come-from-behind win at Santa Barbara City College on Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs finished the season 11-13 in Western State Conference play and 19-17 overall. The Vaqueros finished second in the conference with a 16-8 mark, and an overall record of 19-17.

SBCC scored twice in the fifth and carried a 2-0 lead into the seventh inning. Hancock cut the deficit in half with a RBI-single up the middle from Zach Lampreia that scored Kyle von Tillow. The Vaqueros answered with a solo home run from Nicholas Allman down the right field line to take a 3-1 lead against Ramos.

The Bulldogs rallied for six runs in the eighth. Colby Barrick doubled to right to drive in Justin Daraban. Jacob Tonascia singled through the right side to plate Barrick to tie it 3-3. Tim Mahoney reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Colton Studebaker to score the go-ahead run. Ramos followed with a RBI-single up the middle to plate Mahoney. Carver Tippitt capped the inning with a two-run double down the left field line to score Lampreia and Ramos and give Hancock a 7-3 lead.

Ramos (pictured below) picked up the win with seven innings of work. The right-hander scattered seven hits and three earned runs. The sophomore walked three and struck out four. He finished tied for third in the state for most victories. The Righetti High School graduate played in 20 games last season as a freshman and had 39 at-bats. During the offseason, he asked coaches for the chance to pitch and he seized the opportunity. His nine wins are the most by a Hancock pitcher since Jeff Mayberry won 11 games in 2001. Ramos is tied for seventh for most in program history.

Freshman Walker Armstrong threw the final two innings. He struck out three and allowed one hit to preserve the victory.

Barrick led the Bulldogs with three hits, including two doubles. Studebaker and Daraban had two hits apiece. Hancock had 12 hits overall, while SBCC finished with eight.

Barrick (pictured below) finished the season leading the team with a .388 batting average, 37 runs, 45 hits, five triples, five home runs, 13 stolen bases, .507 on-base percentage and .681 slugging percentage.  He led the Western State Conference in batting average and tied for the lead in stolen bases. The Santa Ynez High School graduate finished his Hancock career with a .351 batting average, and a program record with nine career triples.

Tonascia finished with a team-high 31 RBI to go with four home runs and a .295 batting average. Hunter Christensen ended the year with a .296 clip, two home runs and 14 RBI, while Studebaker had 24 RBI and a .280 batting average.
