Eight Hancock Baseball Players Receive All-Conference Honors, Barrick and Ramos Named to First Team

Colby Barrick and Isaiah Ramos headline a group of eight Allan Hancock College baseball players who received All-Conference recognition. Barrick, a Santa Ynez High School graduate, and Ramos, a Righetti High School graduate, were voted to the All-Western State Conference First Team. Outfielder Hunter Christensen and pitcher Kyle King were named to the Second Team. Infielder/pitcher Jacob Tonascia, infielder Zach Lampreia and freshman pitcher Walker Armstrong received honorable mention. Armstrong is the only one of the group who is not a sophomore. Outfielder Colton Studebaker received a Gold Glove as the conference's top defensive center fielder.

Barrick (pictured below, left) led the Bulldogs in nearly every major offensive statistic: batting average (.388), triples (5), home runs (5), walks (22), stolen bases (13), runs (37), hits (45), on-base percentage (.507) and slugging percentage (.681). He led the conference in batting average, triples, tied for the most stolen bases, and ranked third in home runs. The Preseason All-American finished his Hancock career with a career .351 batting average, and the program's all-time leader with nine career triples. Barrick's most memorable performance this season was a four-hit game in a win against East Los Angeles, where he scored four times, hit a triple, slugged two home runs and drove in four runs, all career highs. Barrick also enjoyed a 17-game hitting streak during the season.

Nearly out of nowhere, Ramos (pictured above, right) became Hancock's most consistent starting pitcher in 2016. After playing as a reserve utility last season as a freshman, the Righetti High School graduate made the move to the mound. He led the conference and ranked third in the state with nine wins, the most by a Hancock pitcher in a single-season since 2001. Ramos finished the season a perfect 9-0 with a 3.04 ERA over 74 innings pitched. He walked 25 and struck out 34 hitters. He struck out a season-high five in a complete game victory over Oxnard.

Christensen (pictured below, left) hit .296 with three triples, 10 doubles, two home runs and 14 RBI for the bulldogs. The Utah native enjoyed 10 games with two or more hits.

King (pictured above, right) led the Bulldog pitching staff with 82 strikeouts, which ranked second in the conference and tied for ninth all-time in program history for most strikeouts in a single-season. The left-handed sophomore started 13 games for the Bulldogs and posted a 3-4 record. He allowed just 53 hits over 71 1/3 innings and posted a 4.16 ERA. One of the highlights of his season was a 14-strikeout performance against L.A. Pierce.

Armstrong (pictured below, left) enjoyed a strong run during the middle of his freshman season. The right-hander appeared in 14 games with the Bulldogs, including 10 starts. He went 3-7 with a 3.41 ERA. The St. Joseph  High School graduate struck out 48 and walked just 17 over 71 1/3 innings. In one stretch, Armstrong threw a complete game against Oxnard in a 3-1 victory, and followed that up with eight-shutout innings of three-hit ball against Porterville.

Tonascia (pictured above, center) led the Bulldogs with 31 RBI and 13 doubles. The sophomore finished his only season with the Bulldogs with a .295 batting average, two triples and four home runs. The right-hander also appeared in seven games on the mound. He struck out 10 over nine innings with two saves and a 4.00 ERA.

Lampreia (pictured above, right), a sophomore infielder, played in 35 games for the Bulldogs. He finished with a .206 batting average, 15 runs and 18 RBI. The Toronto native received Second Team honors his freshman year at Hancock.

Studebaker was recognized as one of the league's top three defensive outfiedlers. The sophomore was a key offensive contributor for the Bulldogs. He finished the season hitting .280 with 22 runs scored and 24 RBI.

The Bulldogs finished the 2016 season 19-17 overall and 11-13 in conference.
