Five Hancock Baseball Players Named to 2018 Academic All-State Team

Five Allan Hancock College baseball players were named to the 2018 Academic All-State Team by the California Community College Baseball Coaches Association (CCCBCA). Representing the Bulldogs on the team were pitchers Matt Hamon and Will Dowell; infielders Chad Jones and Quinntin Perez; and outfielder Brian Dowell.

A total of 81 student-athletes from 31 community colleges in the state qualified for the prestigious list. Each student-athlete had to be in his second season on the team and earn a 3.50 cumulative GPA to be eligible.

Hamon, a left-handed pitcher, has appeared in 12 games during his Bulldog career. The Lompoc High School graduate has a 3.77 GPA.

Will Dowell, a right-handed pitcher, went 3-5 and made 10 starts last season for the Bulldogs. The Righetti High School graduate has a 3.51 GPA.

With a 3.85 GPA, Jones has the highest cumulative GPA among the five Bulldogs. The sophomore infielder is hitting .330 this season with a .455 on-base percentage. Perez, a St. Joseph High School graduate, earned a spot on the academic team with a 3.56 GPA. The shortstop is hitting .367 with 30 runs scored and a .516 on-base percentage this season. He has a .378 career batting average with the Bulldogs.

Bill Dowell, Will's twin brother, is hitting .222 with 8 RBI this season. He clubbed a grand slam against Cypress earlier this year. The outfielder has a 3.76 cumulative GPA.

Hancock was one of 18 programs with multiple players on this year's all-state team. Hancock tied for third among the 31 schools with five student-athletes on the list. Ohlone ranked first with 12 student-athletes.
