Curiel and Shusterich Named to All-Southern California Team by CCCBCA

Sophomore outfielder Daniel Curiel and freshman Jake Shusterich were rewarded for their successful 2018 seasons with spots on the all-regional team. After already being named to the All-Western State Conference First Team, they were two of the 20 student-athletes named to the California Community College Baseball Coaches Association's 2018 All-Southern California Team. It marked the third straight year at least one Bulldog earned a spot on a CCCBCA all-region or all-state team.

Curiel (pictured below) was honored after hitting .331 batting average, three home runs, 30 RBI and 10 stolen bases. He ranked second on the team in RBI. The Righetti High School graduate drew 15 walks to post a .401 on-base percentage. Curiel enjoyed 14 games with two or more hits, including a contest against Oxnard where he went 5-for-5 with 6 RBI. Curiel has verbally committed to play Division II baseball next year for the Academy of Art in San Francisco. The Urban Knights went 24-25 last season and compete in the Pacific West Conference. He finished his Hancock career with a career .296 batting average, 23 stolen bases and 43 RBI.

Shusterich (pictured below) finished his freshman season with a .384 batting average, seven home runs, 39 RBI and 11 doubles. The Arroyo Grande High School graduate led the Bulldogs and ranked among the top-three in the conference in all four categories. He scored 26 runs and led the team with 48 hits. He compiled two or more hits in 13 games, including a five-hit performance in a win against Ventura. Shusterich also went 1-0 with one save and a 4.76 ERA on the mound. He threw 17 innings over 10 appearances on the mound.

The Bulldogs finished tied for third in the conference standings and 21-19 overall. The Bulldogs reached the 20-win mark for the first time since 2014.
