BULLDOGS SPLIT TWO-GAME SERIES AGAINST L.A. PIERCE TO OPEN THE SEASON

The Hancock College Baseball team won in dramatic fashion against L.A. Pierce on Friday and lose by a run the next day.

The Bulldogs kicked-off the 2019 season, as they welcomed the L.A. Pierce Brahmas to Santa Maria this weekend.

On Friday, the Bulldogs got off to an early lead, scoring 3 runs in the 1st inning but a 3-run homerun by L.A. Pierce in the 2nd inning saw the Bulldogs trailing 4-3.

The Brahmas scored again in the 6th inning but a huge 7th inning, highlighted by freshman second baseman Slim Lopez with 2 RBI's and a score, quickly put 4 runs on the scoreboard, giving the Bulldogs the lead of 5-7 in the 7th.

At the top of the 9th inning, L.A. Pierce put 2 runs on the board, tying the score 7-7 in the bottom of the 9th.

Sophomore Ismael Hernandez was hit by a pitch, setting up the single by freshman Trevor Garcia and the score.

The Bulldogs win in dramatic fashion, 7-8 for the their first win of the season.

Slim Lopez, sophomore catcher Reed Odland, and sophomore infielder Zach Rudd all recorded 2 RBI's in the win.

On Saturday, the Bulldogs trailed most of the game, down 3-1 at the bottom of the 7th inning.

Freshman Chris Tani singled, bringing in 2 runs for the Bulldogs to tie the score 3-3.

An error by the Bulldogs at the top of the 8th put the Brahmas in excellent scoring position and would score one run to take the lead 4-3.

The Bulldogs were unable to convert the rest of the game, with a final score of 4-3.

Pitcher Trevor Garcia recorded 10 strikeouts in the game.

The Bulldogs split the 2-game matchup with L.A. Pierce to go 1-1 on the season.

They will travel to L.A. Pierce on Tuesday to face the Brahmas again. First pitch is at 2 pm.
