BASEBALL: BULLDOGS FALL TO CANYONS, SNAP TWO-GAME WINNING STREAK

 

College of the Canyons scores four runs in the 7th and 8th innings to hand the Bulldogs their third loss of the season.

 

 

 

The Bulldogs were coming off of two high-scoring wins, putting up 26 runs in the last two games, including a 14-5 victory over Canyons.

 

 

 

Solid defense by both teams kept the game scoreless for the first two innings.

 

 

 

At the top of the 3rd, Canyons was the first to draw blood, scoring on a wild pitch by the Bulldogs, taking the lead 1-0.

 

 

 

Despite a single by sophomore Davey Demeter in the bottom of the inning, the Bulldogs were unable to answer in the inning.

 

 

 

In the bottom of the 4th, the Bulldogs responded with a single by sophomore Reed Odland, followed by a 2-run homer by Righetti alum Zach Rudd to take the lead 1-2.

 

 

 

After a walk and a balk that advanced freshman Chris Tani to second base, a single by freshman Jeff Ray from Lompoc high school would bring Tani home, extending the Bulldogs lead to 1-3 in the 5th.

 

 

 

After getting two early outs in the 7th, Canyons hit 3 singles, scoring a run and an error by the Bulldogs, giving them another run, to take tie the game 3-3.

 

 

 

In the top of the 8th, a walk and a wild pitch advanced a Canyons runner to the third base. A sacrifice ground-out would bring the runner home. Canyons took the lead 4-3.

 

 

 

The Bulldogs were unable to match it, losing with a final score of 4-3.

 

 

 

The Bulldogs host San Jaoquin Delta College this Friday and Saturday. First pitch Friday is at 2pm, Saturday is at 12 noon.
