Bulldogs Win 3rd Straight, Currently Stand First in Conference

Moorpark entered the contest with a record of 4-1 after defeating Ventura on Saturday.

Hancock was 4-2 and won two straight before today.

Despite Moorpark scoring a run in the first inning, the Bulldogs would take and keep the lead the entire game.

Sophomore Reed Odland got the Bulldogs going with a double in the first. Jake Schusteric was walked right after. With 2 outs, Ismael Hernandez hit a single, bringing home both Odland and Schusteric.

With a lead of 2-1 in the 2nd, Odland once again smacked a double, sending home Travis Welker, and advancing the Bulldog lead to 3-1.

After retiring three straight Moorpark batters in the top of the 4th inning, the Bulldogs got hot from the plate. It started with a double by Chris Tani. Then Joseph Boivin singled advancing Tani to third. A wild pitch by Moorpark advanced Boivin to second and brought Tani home for the score, pushing the Bulldog lead to 4-1.

Travis Welker walked to the plate and doubled bringing in Boivin for a 5-1 lead. Odland hit yet another double, advancing Welker to third base. Thats when Evan Kling singled, bringing in Welker for a third run in the inning and a commanding 6-1 lead going into the 5th inning.

Moorpark homered in the 7th to close the gap to 6-2 but the Bulldogs would quickly match that run and add another run in the inning. Hernandez doubled, McClean singled, advancing Hernandez to third base. Zach Rudd then doubled, bringing in Hernandez and advancing McClean. Welker then singled and brought in McClean extending the Bulldog lead to 8-2.

The Bulldogs put up another run in the 8th inning to lead Moorpark 9-2. Moorpark would try to answer, scoring a run in the 9th but it would not be enough to overcome the huge deficit.  The Bulldogs win 9-3.

Pitcher Trevor Garcia pitched 6-innings, faced 26 batters, striking out 9 of them for the win.

The Bulldogs record advances to 13-10 and 5-2 in conference play. They currently stand one game ahead of Moorpark for first place.

The travel to Moorpark Thursday for a rematch. First pitch is at 2:30pm.
