SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College baseball program dropped a pair of games against Ventura at John Osborne Field on Saturday afternoon.
Kalub Ramirez led the Bulldogs at the plate, going 2-for-4 on the day with two RBIs and one walk. Jacob Ruley also had a productive run at the plate after finishing the day with one run, one RBI, and one walk on a 2-for-4 showing. Joey Freitas and Vander Hodges also recorded multi-hit performances, as Frietas notched a trio of hits in the opening contest while Hodges went 2-for-3 (1 run, 1 walk, 1 RBI) in the second game of the day.
GAME ONE - VENTURA 5, ALLAN HANCOCK 4
Hancock held a 2-1 advantage after a single from Ramirez and a sacrifice fly from Jeff Ray each plated on in the second and third frames. The Pirates knotted the game up once again in the top of the sixth before scoring a trio of runs in the top of the eighth inning to break the tie. Evan Kling earned an RBI in the bottom of the frame after a ground out to third plated one runner. Jacob Steels brought the Bulldogs within one with an RBI single to right field, but Hancock fell short of completing the comeback.
Anthony Garcia took the loss on the mound after surrendering three earned runs on three hits through two innings of work. Hodges earned the start for Hancock but did not factor into the final decision after striking out four batters through 5.1 innings.
GAME TWO - VENTURA 10, ALLAN HANCOCK 7
The Bulldogs struck first in the nightcap after shots from Hodges and Dylan Howell each plated on in the second inning. Ventura rebounded with a two-run showing in the third frame, but a walk with the bases loaded in the next inning put Hancock ahead by one. Both teams scored two apiece and remained tied through the end of five, but the Pirates rallied in the final two frames and outscored Hancock at a 6-2 clip to secure the win.
Vance Serrano earned the start on the rubber but did not factor into the final decision after striking out four batters and scattering seven this through four frames. Parker Haskell was charged with a loss on the bump with two earned runs on four hits.
UP NEXT
The Bulldogs are set to resume action on Thursday, April 22, at home for a single nine-inning contest against Cuesta College. First pitch is set for 2:30 PM at John Osborne Field.
