Hancock Hosts Youth Football Night at Conference Opener Saturday

With a team featuring several Central Coast natives in starting positions, the Allan Hancock College football team hopes to inspire the next generation of student-athletes during its conference opener. The Bulldogs will host Youth Football Night this Saturday, September 27, when they take on rival Bakersfield College, the No.14 team in Southern California. Kick off at Righetti High School is at 4 p.m. The game is the National Northern League opener for both 1-2 squads.

"Of any outreach activity the athletic department does, youth nights are the most rewarding," said Hancock Athletic Director Kim Ensing. "Our student-athletes love having local youth watch our contests and it pushes them that much more. It's also a great reminder to the kids that if they work hard they can end up a college athlete."

All youth football players wearing their jerseys receive free admission to the game. Adults accompanying youth football players receive half-off the $6 admission.

There will also be a youth football exhibition during halftime.

The Bulldogs are coming off a 26-24 win at undefeated Chaffey, the 10th ranked team in California. Central Coast natives were key contributors to the victory. St. Joseph High School graduate Curry Parham threw for 221 yards and two touchdowns. Atascadero High School graduate Logan Sprouse had two interceptions and three pass deflections. Lompoc High School graduate Willie Iribarren tallied 15 tackles and former Braves kicker Jose Morales converted 42 and 45-yard field goals.
