SCFA Names Jose Morales Special Teams Player of the Week, Bulldogs Enter Regional Polls

The Southern California Football Association named kicker Jose Morales the Special Teams Player of the Week for the Northern League on Tuesday. The freshman converted field goals of 50 and 48-yards to help the Allan Hancock College football team come-from-behind to defeat Bakersfield 20-17 last Saturday.

The Lompoc High School graduate leads the state with eight field goals. His only miss was a blocked kick after a fumbled snap against Bakersfield. He also ranks third in the state with 33 points.

Morales is the first Bulldog this season to win a SCFA Player of the Week honor.

Also this week, the Bulldogs climbed into the regional rankings. The Bulldogs are ranked No.17 in the CCCFCA/JC Athletic Bureau's Southern California Regional Poll.  They are also ranked No.13 in the Southern California-National Division rankings.

Hancock overcame an early 10-0 deficit to defeat rival and No.14 Bakersfield 20-17 last weekend. They upset Chaffey, the then-No.10 team in the state, 26-24 the previous weekend. The 2-2 Bulldogs are in the middle of their bye week.

Sophomore linebacker Willie Iribarren ranks first in the state with 52 tackles and a 13 tackles per game average. The Lompoc High School graduate recorded 19 tackles against Santa Ana and 15 in the victory over Chaffey. Atascadero High School graduate Logan Sprouse ranks third in the state with nine pass breakups. He has also picked off three passes which puts him tied for sixth in California in interceptions.

Hancock returns to action next Saturday, October 11, at home against Long Beach City College. The Vikings are ranked No.2 in SoCal and No.5 in the state this week. They host No.1 Mt. San Antonio College this Saturday in a battle of 4-0 teams.
