Bulldogs Run Over Moorpark 52-24 in Season Finale

Lauina Futi, Jaylin Amerson and Shaq Autry rushed for 100-plus yards apiece as the Allan Hancock College football team closed the 2014 season with a 52-24 win over Moorpark on Saturday night at Righetti High School.

The Bulldogs, who scored four touchdowns on plays of at least 45-yards, finished the season 3-3 in National Northern League play and 4-6 overall. Hancock finished fourth in the league standings behind first place Ventura, while Cerritos and Bakersfield tied for second at 4-2. Moorpark, which suited up less than 35 players, finished 2-8 overall and 1-5 in conference action.

The Bulldogs set season records with 621 yards of total offense and 440 rushing yards. Futi rushed for a career-high 124 yards on 14 carries to post his fourth game of 100+ yards rushing. Amerson finished with 107 yards on 15 carries, including a 60-yard touchdown run. Autry carried the ball eight times for 110 yards and two scores, including a 69-yard score. It was Autry's first game with 100+ yards and Amerson's second.

Moorpark scored on its third possession of the game, but the Bulldogs responded with a 71-yard touchdown pass from Andrew Madrigal to Zak Karsh to tie it 7-7 with 1:54 to play in the first quarter. Karsh's second touchdown pass of the season started a 52-3 run by the Bulldogs that stretched into the fourth quarter.

Madrigal, a Pioneer Valley High School graduate, made his first start at quarterback after seeing action last week when Curry Parham left with a separated shoulder. Parham, sophomore linebacker Willie Iribarren (neck strain), defensive end Seth Kena (ankle sprain), wide receiver Tristen Jeffries and linebacker Romelson St. Vil all missed the season finale with injuries. Madrigal completed seven of his 12 passes for 181 yards and one touchdown strike.

Jose Morales converted a 22-yard field goal early in the second quarter to give Hancock the lead for good 10-7. Hancock extended the lead to 17-7 after Futi scored on a 20-yard run to cap a five play, 72 yard drive. Logan Sprouse intercepted a pass on Moorpark's next drive and returned it 45 yards for a pick-six to give Hancock a 24-7 lead into halftime. It was the Atascadero High School graduate's fifth interception of the season. He also finished the season with 15 pass breakups breaking the program record of 11 set by Lamar Allen in 2008.

Autry started the second half with a bang with a 69-yard scoring run on the opening drive to give Hancock a 31-7 lead. Moorpark converted a field goal to stop a 31-0 run by Hancock, but the Bulldogs responded with a 52-yard touchdown run by Amerson to make it 38-10 with 10:31 to play in the third quarter. Autry added his second score on the night with a 7-yard run to put Hancock ahead 45-10 with 7:11 to go in the third quarter.  Hancock carried the 35-point lead into the fourth quarter.

Michael Johnson scored on a five-yard run for the Bulldogs in the fourth quarter to give Hancock a 52-18 lead.

Defensively, Deonte Barnes led the team with 12 tackles to go with two pass breakups. Linebacker Jonathon General finished with 10 tackles, two breakups and 1.5 tackles for lost yardage. Eric Wilson added eight tackles, recovered one fumble and broke up a pass. Kevon Perry had 1.5 sacks, while Isaiah Hill and Tavian Robinson were both credited with 0.5 of a sack.
