Hancock Football Climbs to No. 17 in State Poll

Off to its best start in three seasons, the Allan Hancock College football team continues its rise in the state poll. The Bulldogs climbed six spots to No. 17 this week in the JC Athletic Bureau's Poll of football coaches. Hancock received 134 points in the poll, which is a 60 point jump from last week when head coach Kris Dutra's team was ranked No. 23.

The Bulldogs are 3-1 overall and 1-0 in Northern League play after their 39-35 come-from-behind win at Bakersfield last Saturday. Hancock has also captured a 67-21 win over Santa Ana, and a 24-13 victory over then-No.11 Chaffey.

Riverside (3-0) was the unanimous No. 1 among coaches with 400 points. Long Beach (4-0) climbed two spots to No. 2 and Canyons (4-0) jumped two slots to No. 3 this week. Golden West (4-0) and San Mateo (3-1) round out the top five. Sequoias (4-0), Modesto (3-1), American River (3-1), San Francisco (3-1) and Cerritos (3-1) are ranked sixth through tenth.

The remainder of the Bulldogs' schedule includes three teams ranked in the top 10 and four squads in this week's top 20. The Bulldogs have a bye this Saturday before playing a non-conference game at No.2 Long Beach on Oct. 10. They return home to host league games against No. 10 Cerritos on Oct. 17 and No. 5 Canyons on Oct. 24. Defending Northern League champion Ventura (2-2), which is ranked No. 19 this week, plays at Hancock on November 7.
