Hancock Football Rides Momentum into Saturday Showdown at San Bernardino

Coming off its first win of the 2016 season, the Hancock football team will head southeast to play at San Bernardino (1-3) in both teams' final preseason games. Kickoff on Saturday, October 1 at San Bernardino will be at 4 p.m. There will be no live webstream of this weekend's game.

The Bulldogs are coming off a 48-17 victory at home against Santa Ana. Hancock set season highs for points (48), passing yards (232), rushing yards (222) and total yards of offense (454). Quarterback Matt Albright (Nipomo HS) threw for a career-high 232 yards on 19 for 24 passing. The sophomore threw four touchdown passes, the most thrown in one game by a Hancock quarterback in four years. Shaq Autry (North Marion HS) returned from a two-game absence due to an injury to rush for 101 yards and score two touchdowns. Jajuan Lankford ran for 36 yards and ran in a touchdown. Kelvin Marion (Everglades HS) had two catches for 80 yards, both touchdowns. Alex Cecchi (Arroyo Grande HS) caught seven passes for 57 yards and assumed kickoff duties. St. Joseph High School graduate Chris Barganier and Ben Rantz each caught one touchdown pass in the second quarter for Hancock.  Defensively, Thomas Leggett led Hancock with seven tackles. Xavier Dooley (Corsicana HS) and Lenny Roundtree (Northwestern HS) each had one interception. Dooley returned his pick 54 yards.

Hancock is averaging 176 rushing yards, 184 passing yards and 25.8 points per game. Defensively, they've allowed 321.3 yards and 24.5 points per contest. Cecchi leads the team with 17 catches for 192 yards and one score, Barganier has 14 receptions for 206 yards and two touchdowns.

SBVCC and Hancock will play for the first time since 1999. The all-time series is tied 2-2.

The Wolverines defeated LA Southwest last weekend 48-3. Quarterback Kendal Williams threw for 295 yards and three touchdowns, including a 72-yard strike to Siddique Newkirk and a 42-yard touchdown to Blake Fisher. San Bernardino finished with 477 yards of total offense and held LA Southwest to 46 total yards.  Earlier this season, SBVCC lost to Mt. San Antonio 40-0, Pasadena City College 26-11, and Citrus by the score of 33-9. SBBCC averages 48 yards rushing and 229 yards passing per game. Demetre Ramos-Davis leads the team with 14 receptions for 194 yards.

After this week, Hancock will have a bye week before opening Pacific League play at home October 15 against Santa Barbara City College.
