Former Bulldog Artis-Payne Scores Two Touchdowns, Rushes for Career-High 88 Yards on Monday Night Football

Former Allan Hancock College All-American Cameron Artis-Payne rushed for a career-high 88 yards and scored two touchdowns in the Carolina Panthers' 17-14 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday Night Football. Artis-Payne scored both of his touchdowns in the third quarter for the Panthers in front of a national television audience. The second-year running back surpassed his previous career high of 59 yards that he set last December against the New York Giants.

Artis-Payne scored his first touchdown of the season on a one-yard run in the third quarter to erase a 6-0 deficit and give Carolina a 7-6 lead. The former Bulldog capped another Carolina drive by turning the corner on a 12-yard touchdown run to give Carolina a 14-6 lead. Click here to see the video.

Buccaneers kicker Roberto Aguayo sent a 38-yard field goal through the uprights as time expired to earn the victory. That score capped an 11 play, 66-yard game-winning drive.

Carolina quarterback Derek Anderson, starting for the injured Cam Newton, completed 18-of-28, throwing no touchdowns and two interceptions. Both teams had the chance to take the lead in the final nine minutes, but an Anderson interception in the end zone and a missed field goal on Tampa Bay's ensuing drive held the score at 14-14.

Artis-Payne made his the most of his third straight start for the Panthers in place of injured running back Jonathan Stewart. Previously, Artis-Payne had rushed for 47 yards on 12 carries against Minnesota, and 12 yards on six carries in Atlanta.

For the season, the 2015 fifth round draft pick has rushed for 144 yards on 36 carries. He is averaging four yards per carry.

The 1-4 Panthers have lost three straight games. They return to action Sunday, October 16, in New Orleans against the Saints.
