Hancock Defense Leads Bulldogs to Victory

The Bulldogs defense had five interceptions and recovered a fumble on their way to a 37-26 win over Pasadena City College. 

Mystikal Wilson had two interceptions on the game and returned his second interception for a touchdown with 2:18 left in the fourth quarter to secure the win for Hancock. Edjuan Works, Domanic Chapa, and Stephen Sings each had an interception. Basiru Jobe led the defense with two sacks, nine tackles, four and a half tackles for a loss, and recovered a fumble. JD Smith had 8 solo tackles, a tackle for a loss, two pass break-ups, and forced a fumble. 

Jimmy Kelleher led the Bulldog offense with 276 passing yards and a touchdown. Kelleher also led the team in rushing yards with 29 yards and a rushing touchdown. Michael Ferraro was Kelleher's favorite target of the game finding him seven times for 104 yards. Markese Jackson caught four passes for 90 yards. Kelleher found Jackson for a 61-yards for the team's only passing touchdown. 

The Bulldogs trailed early 3-0 against the Lancers. Jordan Pollard tied up the game in the first quarter with a 22-yard field goal. Hancock took a 10-3 lead in the first quarter after the defense forced a three-and-out. Kelleher found Ferraro for a 53-yard pass to set up a seven-yard touchdown run for Vetravius Gamble with 4:13 left in the quarter. Less than three minutes later, Kelleher found Jackson for the 61-yard touchdown pass. 

Hancock led at halftime 23-10. Gamble scored his second touchdown of the game at 13:26 of the second quarter. Gamble finished the game with five carries for 24 yards and two touchdowns. 

The Bulldogs held off the Lancers comeback by intercepting three passes in the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs have nine interceptions on the season which is second most in the state, trailing only El Camino. 

Hancock will travel to Santa Ana this Saturday, September 23, to face the Dons at Eddie West Field. The game starts at 4pm and will be streamed live at athletics.hancockcollege.edu.
