Hancock Football Climbs to No. 2 in Regional Poll, Hosts No. 9 San Bernardino Saturday

The winner of three straight games, the Allan Hancock College football team climbed four spots in the latest regional poll this week. The Bulldogs climbed to No. 2 in the second California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA)/California Community Colleges Football Coaches Association (CCCFCA) Regional State Football Poll of the season. Hancock was ranked fourth last week.

The Bulldogs, who are off to a 3-1 start to match the program's best start since 2012, earned 78 points to finish second in the Southern California - American Division Poll. Undefeated L.A. Valley, winners of 19 in a row, remained atop the American Division at No. 1.

Santa Barbara City College (3-1) climbed two spots to No. 3 this week with 76 points. San Diego Mesa (3-1) is No. 4 with 66 points, followed by No. 5 Southwestern, No. 6s East Los Angeles and College of the Desert, No. 8 Victor Valley, as well as No. 9s San Bernardino Valley and LA. Pierce.

The Bulldogs will host No. 9 San Bernardino Valley this Saturday, September 30, at Hancock Football Field. Kickoff will be at 2p.m. Hancock is coming off a 50-35 win at Santa Ana. The Bulldogs rushed for 333 yards and seven rushing touchdowns. Sophomore linebacker Basiru Jobe recorded a program-record 20 tackles, including 4.5 tackles for loss. Jobe leads the team with 43 tackles and leads all players in Southern California with 5.5 sacks. Freshman defensive back Domanic Chapa leads the team with three interceptions, which is tied for fifth most in the state.

Overall, Hancock ranks fourth in the state with 209.3 rushing yards per game.  The Bulldog defense ranks second in the state with 10 interceptions; fourth with 16 sacks; seventh with six fumble recoveries; and 14th in rushing defense at 88.3 rushing yards allowed per game.

The Wolverines are 2-2 and coming off a 45-0 win over L.A. Southwest. Quarterback Armando Herrera has throw for 663 yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions. Deion Walker is the team's leading rusher with 235 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Receivers Kellen Pachot and Brian Boyd, Jr. have 13 receptions apiece. Pachot has three touchdown catches. Linebacker Nick Como is the team's leading tackler with 30 tackles, including seven tackles for loss and two sacks.

Hancock won at San Bernardino last year 16-6. The Bulldogs lead the all-time series that started in 1983 by a 3-2 edge.
