Ranked No. 23, Hancock Football Enters State Poll for First Time Since 2015

Off to their best seven-game start in five seasons, the Allan Hancock College football team has entered the state poll. The Bulldogs, who are 2-0 in American Pacific League play and 5-2 overall, are ranked 23rd in this week's JC Athletic Bureau Poll of California Community College Football Coaches. It marks the first time in two season the Bulldogs are ranked among the top 25 in the state.

Hancock received 70 points and was one of three American Division teams in this week's top 25.

Undefeated Fullerton remained the No. 1 team in the state with 475 points, while unbeaten Riverside ranked second with 449 points.  American River, San Mateo and Bakersfield rounded out the top five. Bakersfield (6-1) defeated Hancock 21-6 in the season opener.  

The Bulldogs are tied with Antelope Valley at the top of the American Pacific League standings at 2-0. Coming off a 46-7 win over defending league champion L.A. Valley, the Bulldogs will play at L.A. Pierce on Saturday, October 28, at 4 p.m. The Brahmas are 1-1 in league and 3-4 on the season. Pierce fell 7-6 to L.A. Valley and edged Citrus last week 28-27.

Statistically, Hancock ranks among the state's best in several categories. Hancock ranks fifth in the state averaging 238.4 rushing yards per game and sixth with 19 rushing touchdowns. On defense, the Bulldogs lead the state with 34 sacks, tied for third with 11 fumble recoveries and seventh with 13 interceptions. Sophomores Basiru Jobe and Osa Omokaro are tied for fourth in the state with 14 tackles for loss.
