Bulldogs Climb to No. 20 in State Rankings, Jobe Tackles League Honor

Just days after clinching the program's first conference title in 17 years, the Allan Hancock College football team climbed one spot in the latest state poll. The Bulldogs received 85 points in the JC Athletic Bureau Poll of California Community College Football Coaches to rise to No. 20 in the state rankings.

Hancock defeated Antelope Valley last weekend 21-7 to stay unbeaten in American Pacific League play and secure at least a share of the conference crown. The Bulldogs are 4-0 in league and 7-2 overall. Hancock can secure the outright title, its first in 20 years, with a win this weekend or an Antelope Valley loss.

The Southern California Football Association named Hancock linebacker Basiru Jobe its Week 10 American Pacific League's Defensive Player of the Week. The sophomore recorded a team-high 16 tackles, including 1.5 for loss, in the win at Antelope Valley. Jobe led the team's defensive effort that held AVC scoreless the final 54 minutes of the showdown between two first-place teams. The sophomore set a program record for most tackles in a single-game earlier this season with 20 tackles against Santa Ana. Jobe averages 9.8 tackles per game, which ranks second in the league and third in Southern California.

The Bulldogs welcome Citrus College this Saturday, Nov. 11, at 1 p.m. in their final regular season game of the year. The game will also serve as the college's annual Military Appreciation Day, so all military members, veterans and their family receive free admission and lunch. Tickets can be picked up at the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Public Affairs office at Vandenberg AFB or in the college's Veteran Success Center.
