Willkomm Scores Career-High 18 Points, Bulldogs Beat LA. Valley 83-69 to Earn Third Place at SBCC Tournament

Matt Willkomm scored a career-high 18 points to lead the Allan Hancock College men's basketball team to an 83-69 win over L.A. Valley on Saturday evening. The Bulldogs took third place at the Santa Barbara City College tournament and evened their overall record at 5-5. L.A. Valley dropped to 3-6. 

Willkomm, a freshman guard, hit six of his 10 shots overall, including four of eight from three-point territory. The Arroyo Grande High School graduate also had four assists and three rebounds.

Six Bulldogs scored 10 or more points in the victory. Lawrence Johnson scored 14 points with three rebounds and three assists. The sophomore guard hit six of his 13 shots from the floor, including two of six from three-point range. Kadeem Minor added 12 points on five for 10 shooting with four rebounds and three steals.

Andre Miller and Arinze Anakwenze added 11 points apiece, while Lavell White had 10 points. Miller had a team-high seven rebounds, four steals, and four assists.  Anakwenze blocked two shots.

White was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Hancock shot 51 percent overall on 28 for 55 shooting, while they hit 10 of its 26 three-point shots for a 39 percent mark. The Bulldogs made 17 off 22 free throws or 77 percent.

The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 17, at 4 p.m. against Fresno City College at a four-day tournament hosted by Modesto College. Fresno is off to a 9-3 start this season.
