In Hunt for Title, Hancock Men Play Two Road Games This Week

The men's basketball team plays two road games this week as it remains in the hunt for the Western State Conference title. The Bulldogs are coming off a dominant 83-43 win over Santa Barbara City College. Hancock outscored SBCC 50-14 in the second half and turned 31 Vaquero turnovers into 50 points. Sophomore Lawrence Johnson had 17 points and six rebounds, while freshman forward Arinze Anakwenze also scored 17 points. Andre Miller added 15, Matt Willkomm scored 14 and Kadeem Minor finished with 11.

The Bulldogs close out the first half of conference action on Wednesday at Oxnard a 5 p.m. The Condors are 3-12 overall and 2-3 in WSC play. They beat Ventura last week 56-54 after falling at home to Cuesta 89-59. DeSean Scott is the team's leading scorer at 20.8 points over nine games. Matthew Ramon is averaging 15.4 points and 11 rebounds per game.

On Saturday, Hancock will travel to Moorpark for a 5 p.m. matchup. The Bulldogs opened conference with a 73-50 win over Moorpark on Jan. 7. Willkomm led the Bulldogs with 18 points and Johnson added 13. Hancock fell to Moorpark during the preseason 68-62.  Moorpark is 12-10 overall and 2-3 in conference. They have four players averaging 10 or more points per game, led by guard Joshua Brooks (15.7 ppg) and Larry Bush (13.4 ppg).

Hancock starts the week tied for second place in conference with L.A. Pierce at 4-1 in WSC action. Idle Cuesta is 5-1 in conference and half a game ahead of the Bulldogs and Brahmas.
