Still Time to Register for Hancock Youth Basketball Club's Fall League
Teams and individual players can still register to be a part of the second annual boy's basketball fall league hosted by the Hancock Youth Basketball Club and Mike Alexander's Swoosh Basketball, Inc. The six-week league starts Sunday, August 30, with all games taking place in Joe White Memorial Gymnasium at Allan Hancock College.
"We have players coming from Lompoc, Santa Ynez, Nipomo and the Santa Maria area," said Hancock men's basketball head coach Tyson Aye. "We've had great feedback and the community is excited about another year with a fall league in their hometown."
The Hancock Youth Basketball Club league features separate divisions for sixth, seventh and eighth grade boys, as well as divisions for freshman, junior varsity and varsity teams.
The college will run the league and host the games that will played on Sundays beginning August. 30 through October 4, 2015. There will be no games on Sunday, September 6, due to the holiday.
"We are still in need of teams within the seventh, eighth, freshman and junior varsity divisions," said Aye. "We have had several individual players contact looking for teams to play on so we are attempting to put together teams of individual players to further serve our community."
Organizers will add divisions from the third through sixth grade if there is enough interest. Each division must have a minimum of four teams or it will be cancelled. If a division is cancelled, registered teams will have the option of a full refund or entry to a higher division.
The fee to register a team is $425. If an organization is registering more than one team, the fee for the additional squads will be $380 apiece.
The Hancock Youth Basketball Club and Mike Alexander's Swoosh Basketball, Inc. recently hosted a four-day youth basketball camp attended by dozens of local children.
