Hancock Falls To Top Ranked Saddleback At Cuesta Tournament, Faces Fullerton In Third Place Game Sunday At 3 p.m.

Sophomore guard Matt Willkomm scored 18 points and Malik Rhodes added 11, but the Allan Hancock College men's basketball team's bid to upset top ranked Saddleback fell short in a 79-58 loss in the championship semifinals of Cuesta College's Tournament on Saturday. Saddelback is the defending state champion and top ranked team in the state's preseason poll.

The Bulldogs dropped to 1-1 on the season and will face Fullerton in the third place game on Sunday at 3 p.m. Fullerton fell 71-62 to the host Cougars on Saturday.

Willkomm made five of his 11 shots from the field, including four of nine from three-point range. The Arroyo Grande High School graduate also was a perfect four-for-four from the foul line.

Rhodes, who scored 31 points on Friday, made two of his nine shots from the floor. He made all seven of his free throw attempts in the game to improve to 22 for 23 on the season, which is 95.6 percent.

Joe Riley and Marcellus Garrick added eight points apiece.

Hancock was outrebounded 30 to 22. Jeremiah Headley, Rhodes and Jeremy Eves pulled down four rebounds apiece to lead Hancock in the category.

Three Saddleback players scored 12 or more points led by TJ Shorts who scored 19.
