Hancock Men's Basketball Hosts Three Ranked Teams During Inaugural Home Motors Invitational Friday Through Sunday

The men's basketball team continues its four-game homestand with the inaugural Home Motors Invitational that will run from Friday, Nov. 20, through Sunday, Nov. 22, inside Joe White Memorial Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs are coming off a 70-56 win over the junior varsity team from William Jessup University, a NAIA-program in Rocklin. Marcellus Garrick (Karen Wagner HS) led all scorers with a career-high 16 points to go with six rebounds. Freshman guard Malik Rhodes (Clark Montessori HS) added 11 points, while sophomore Matt Willkomm (Arroyo Grande High School) poured in 10 points, all in the first half. Willkomm added five rebounds. Freshman guard Manny Mangayao (Orcutt Academy) scored a career-high eight points. Freshman post player Tim Ford (Colony HS) led the Bulldogs with nine rebounds.

Hancock will welcome five teams this weekend, including three ranked programs: Yuba, the No. 6 team in state preseason poll; No. 8 Marin; and San Diego City, the No. 13 team in the South Regional. Cuesta, Napa Valley and Hancock round out the six-team field. Each team will play three games during the inaugural event.

The Bulldogs will face Napa Valley (0-2) on Friday, Nov. 20, at 7 p.m. Napa opened the season with a 111-64 loss to Fresno before falling 76-63 to Alameda. Forward Calvin Johnson led Napa with 14 points against the Rams, while Dan Galarza added 10.

Hancock will battle Yuba (1-2) Saturday, Nov. 21, at 5 p.m. Yuba fell 94-81 to San Francisco, dropped a 69-57 decision to Marin, and defeated San Joaquin Delta 67-66 to start the season.  Marin (3-3) and Hancock will play the final game of the three-day event on Sunday, Nov. 22, at 4 p.m.  Five Mariners are averaging 10 or more points a game, led by guards George Johnson (18.8 ppg), Ty Davis (15.7 ppg) and Noah Everly (13 ppg).

Cuesta, which shared the Western State Conference title last season with Hancock and Moorpark, begins the week 2-1, while San Diego City College has won two of its four games to open the season.

Friday, Nov. 20:   3 p.m.- Cuesta vs. Marin,  5 p.m. - San Diego vs. Yuba,  7 p.m.- Hancock vs. Napa

Saturday, Nov. 21:  1 p.m. –San Diego vs. Marin, 3 p.m. – Cuesta vs. Napa, 5 p.m. – Hancock vs. Yuba

Sunday, Nov. 22: 12 p.m. – Cuesta vs. Yuba, 2 p.m. – San Diego vs. Napa,  4 p.m. – Hancock vs. Marin
