Willkomm, Rhodes and Riley Lead Bulldogs to 87-55 Rout Over Napa to Open Inguaural Home Motors Invitational

Starting out red-hot from three-point territory, the Allan Hancock College men's basketball team stormed out to an early lead against Napa Valley College and never looked back in an 87-55 win to close out opening day of the inaugural Home Motors Invitational on Friday evening in Joe White Memorial Gymnasium. Hancock's first five buckets of the game, and six of its first eight, were from three-point territory. The Bulldogs won their second straight game to improve to 3-2, while the Storm dropped to 0-3.

Matt Willkomm, Malik Rhodes and Shane Carney all dropped in three-point buckets to help the Bulldogs storm out to a 22-12 lead less than six minutes into the game. The Bulldogs drained eight of 11 from three-point range in the first half to carry a 44-25 lead into halftime.

WIllkomm finished with a game-high 16 points. The Arroyo Grande High School graduate made six of 11 from the field, including four three-pointers. The sophomore guard added four assists and two steals.

Rhodes finished with 13 points on fiver for nine shooting, including three of five from long-range. He added six assists and four rebounds.

Freshman Joe Riley scored a career-high 13 points to go with two rebounds and two steals, while freshman guard Manny Mangayao poured in a season-best nine points off the bench. Mangayao, an Orcutt Academy graduate, made four of his seven shots from the floor to go with four rebounds.

Hancock forward Tim Ford added four points and six boards, while Carney and Jeremiah Headley added seven points apiece off the bench. 

Hancock shot 54 percent from the field on 34 for 63 shooting on the night. The Bulldogs made 11 of 28 from three-point range. They made eight of 12 from the charity stripe.

The Bulldogs finished with 16 assists and just five turnovers in the win.

The Storm made 21 of its 50 shots from the floor and turned the ball over 18 times which led to 27 Hancock points. The Hancock bench outscored Napa's bench 47 to 27. Freshman forward Emilio Gonzalez, a Santa Barbara High School graduate, finished with six points, five rebounds and one block off the bench for the Bulldogs.

Isaiah Brown led Napa Valley with 11 points.

Earlier in the day, Marin, the eighth ranked team in the state, edged Cuesta 68-66, and San Diego City College knocked off Yuba, the sixth ranked team in the state's preseason poll, 82-69.
