Bulldogs Pull Away In Second Half, Win At El Camino 75-52

(Torrance, CA) Shane Carney and Matt Willkomm scored 14 points apiece, while Marcellus Garrick added 12 to lead the Allan Hancock College men's basketball team to a 75-52 win at El Camino College on Wednesday evening. The Bulldogs improved to 5-3 on the season. The host Warriors dropped to 1-6.

The Bulldogs started out of the gates slowly and trailed 16-13 with about eight minutes to go in the first half. The Bulldogs went on an 11-2 run to regain control and carried a 34-31 lead into halftime.

Hancock took control in the second half aided by sinking 14 of its 24 shots from the field or 58 percent. The Warriors, who shot 33 percent in the first half, made only 30 percent of their shots in the final 20 minutes as Hancock outscored El Camino 41-21 in the second half.

Willkomm made five of his 11 shots from the field and all four of his free throws. The sophomore added four assists. Carney came off the bench and went a perfect four for four from the field, including hitting both of his three-points shots. 

Garrick made four of his five shots, including one three pointer and sank three of seven free throw attempts. The freshman added a team-high six rebounds for the Bulldogs.

Collins Uzowulu finished with nine points, three steals and three rebounds, while Malik Rhodes added eight points, four rebounds and four assists.

For the game, Hancock shot 53 percent (25 for 47) from the floor, including 36 percent from three-point range (5 for 14), and 64 percent from the free throw line (20 for 31). El Camino hit 32 percent of its shots (17 for 53) and just 17 percent from long-range (3 for 18). 

The Bulldogs outrebounded the Warriors 38 to 31. However, El Camino pulled down 15 offensive rebounds. Hancock committed 18 turnovers, but forced the Warriors into turning the ball over 21 times. Off the bench, Jeremiah Headley had four steals, five boards and two points.

Hancock returns to action on Friday, December 4, at 5 p.m. when it hosts Cerritos, the 13th ranked team in the latest South Regional rankings.
