Hancock Men Defeat SBCC 84-72 Behind 24 from Willkomm and 17 from Ford

Matt Willkomm tied a season high with 24 points and Tim Ford poured in a career-high 17 points to go with 14 rebounds lead the Allan Hancock College men's basketball team to an 84-72 win at Santa Barbara City College on Saturday evening. The Bulldogs snapped a three-game skid and swept the two-game series with the Vaqueros. Hancock improved to 3-4 in Western State Conference play and 11-13 overall. SBCC fell to 1-6 in league and 6-15 for the season.

Willkomm and Ford were two of five Bulldogs to reach double figures. Shane Carney and Malik Rhodes scored 12 apiece and Marcellus Garrick finished with 10, all of which came in the first half. Ford's previous career high was 10 points. 

Carney recorded his first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. He compiled eight assists and fell two shy of a triple-double.

Hancock carried a 44-42 lead into halftime thanks to 10 points from Marcellus Garrick, nine from Ford and eight more from Willkomm. The Bulldogs made it to the free-throw line 21 times in the first half and made 17 of them.  The Vaqueros were six for six in the first 20 minutes. 

The Bulldogs outscored SBCC 40-30 in the second half to secure the victory. In the second half, Willkomm led the Bulldogs with 16 points, Malik Rhodes added nine and Ford poured in eight.

Overall, Hancock made 85 percent of its 27 free throws. SBCC made 10 of 11.

Tejon Williams led the Vaqueros with 17 points, while Evan Tillman added 16 points.

Hancock will return to action Wednesday, Feb. 3 at Oxnard.
