Willkomm Scores Career-High 38 Points, Hancock Men Trump Oxnard 100-72

Matt Willkomm buried six three-pointers and scored a career-high 38 points to lead five Bulldogs in double figures as the Allan Hancock College men's basketball team scored a big 100-72 win at Oxnard College on Wednesday evening. The Bulldogs won their second straight Western State Conference game to improve to 4-4 in league and 12-13 overall. The Condors fell to 2-6 in conference and 8-12 on the season.

Willkomm scored 16 points in the first half to help Hancock take a 50-42 lead at half time. Marcellus Garrick scored 11 points in the first 20 minutes and Malik Rhodes had eight points. Hancock drained six threes in the first half and made 10 of its 12 free throws. 

The Bulldogs outscored Oxnard 50-30 in the second half paced by Willkomm's 22 points. The Arroyo Grande High School graduate sank four three-pointers in the second half to finish with six long-range shots in the game. Willkomm also went six for six in the game from the free throw line. The sophomore guard's previous career high was 26 points, which he accomplished twice last season.

Rhodes finished with 18 points, including 10 in the second half. Garrick poured in 13 points.

Shane Carney and Tim Ford, both freshmen, recorded double-doubles. Carney had 12 points and a career-high 11 assists to complete his second straight double-double. Ford finished with 12 points and a team-high 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season.

Hancock sank 12 three-point buckets in the game and made 20 of its 25 free throws.

Lonnie Hinchen led the Condors with 17 points.

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday when they host Moorpark. Tip off will be at 5 p.m. inside Joe White Memorial Gymnasium. Moorpark is 6-2 in conference and one game behind first place Cuesta after the Raiders defeated Ventura 73-70 on Wednesday.
