Men's Basketbal Comes From Behind, Defeats Host Ohlone 68-63 to Advance to Championship Game

Shane Carney led a balanced Bulldog attack with 16 points to help the Allan Hancock College men's basketball team come-from-behind to knock off host Ohlone 68-63 to advance to the championship game of Ohlone's Jon Wallace Memorial Tournament Friday evening. The Bulldogs improved to 3-2, while Ohlone fell to 1-1.

Hancock struggled in the first half and trailed 34-23 at intermission. Glenn Jordan led the Bulldogs with eight points in the first 20 minutes, while Carney had seven.

Hancock's offense and all-around game surfaced in the second half as the Bulldogs started to hit their shots. Javae Lampkins hit three 3-pointers to score all 10 of his points in the game in the second half. Hancock outscored the Renegades 45-29 in the final 20 minutes to erase the 11-point halftime deficit.

Carney added nine points in the second half to finish with 16 points, seven assists and four rebounds. Jordan finished with 15 points and four assists. Lampkins gave Hancock three scorers in double digits with 10 points and two assists.

Freshman Trenton Mitchell fell two points shy of a double-double. The 6-foot-6 forward finished with a career-high 20 rebounds, seven of them came on the offensive end. Mitchell added eight points. Spirit Ricks added seven points, while Devin Davis contributed six and Kevin Baines scored five for the Bulldogs.

The Renegades hit 11 3-pointers on the night, five by Cameron Bradley. Richard Oryem led Ohlone with 19 points, 17 came in the first half.

Hancock will face Monterey Peninsula in the championship game on Saturday at 3 p.m. Monterey defeated Canada 83-74.
