Season-High 24 Points From Carney Leads Bulldogs to 83-65 Win over SBCC at Home Motors Tournament

Shane Carney hit four 3-pointers to finish with a season-best 24 points to help the Allan Hancock College men's basketball team get back on track with an 83-65 win over Santa Barbara City College Saturday during the second day of Hancock's Home Motors Tournament. The Bulldogs improved to 5-3, while the Vaqueros dropped to 0-6. Hancock eliminated SBCC from the double-elimination tournament and advanced to face Yuba in the consolation championship on Sunday at 1 p.m.

A back-and-forth first half ended with the Bulldogs ahead 35-34 after Carney converted a three-point play with less than 20 seconds remaining. The sophomore guard had 10 points in the first half to lead the Bulldogs.

The game was tied 50-50 with about 12:30 to play in the game when freshman Glenn Jordan buried a 3-pointer to start a 15-6 run by the Bulldogs over a three-minute time period. Hancock only extended its lead from there, closing out the game on a 33-15 run over the final 12:30 to earn the win.

Carney went 8-for-12 from the field and 4-7 from 3-point range to finish with 24 points to go with his three assists, two steals and two rebounds. Spirit Ricks finished with 11 points and five rebounds. The freshman hit four of his six shots from the floor. Jordan finished with 10 points along with three rebounds. DJ Searcy added nine points and Devin Davis finished with seven points, six rebounds and three assists off the bench for the Bulldogs.

Overall, Hancock shot 55 percent from the field by hitting 32 of its 58 shots. After struggling from the floor in the first half, Hancock went 21-for-29 in the second half for a 72 percent clip. The Bulldogs also hit 4-of-5 from long range in the second half to finish 7-for-19 from 3-point range on the day.

The Vaqueros shot 47 percent from the field. They went 3-for-11 from 3-point range and 8-for-17 from the free-throw line. Drayten Howell led SBCC with 23 points, while Dejon Jackson added 20.

Hancock will face Yuba (3-2) on Sunday. Yuba defeated Cuesta 83-73 on Saturday behind 25 points from Jeryn Lucas and 23 from Elishja Duplechan.
