Career-High 28 Points from Carney Fuels Comeback, Hancock Edges Yuba 77-74 in Overtime at Home Motors Tournament

Shane Carney scored a career-high 28 points and Devin Davis recorded his first double-double to lead the Allan Hancock College men's basketball team to a thrilling 77-74 win in overtime over Yuba on the final day of Hancock's third annual Home Motors Tournament on Sunday. The Bulldogs, who trailed by nine points with 6:57 to play in regulation, earned fifth place in their own tournament and improved to 6-3 overall. Yuba, the No. 17 team in the preseason state poll, fell to 4-3.

Trailing 65-56 with less than seven minutes to go, Carney started the comeback with one of his six 3-pointers in the game. Davis hit a layup and two free throws to pull the Bulldogs to within 67-63 with four minutes remaining. After another 3-pointer by Carney, one free throw by Glenn Jordan and a layup from Davis, the game was tied 69-69 with under two minutes to go. Jordan scored a layup to give Hancock its first lead of the second half at 71-69 with less than a minute to play, but a dunk by Isaiah Bates sent the game into overtime. Hancock outscored Yuba 6-3 in overtime to earn the comeback win.

Carney hit 9-of-16 from the field, and 6-of-9 from 3-point range. The sophomore guard also sank four of his five shots from the free-throw line. On top of his 28 points, Carney added five rebounds and one steal. Carney was named to the All-Tournament Team after averaging 21.7 points during the three-game event.

Jordan and Davis added 15 points apiece. Jordan hit six of his 12 shots, including two 3-pointers to go with three assists and two steals. Davis earned his first double-double with season highs of 15 points and 10 rebounds. Davis was 4-for-4 from the line and 5-for-10 from the floor. Freshman Trenton Mitchell added six points and rebounds.

Hancock hit 43 percent of its 65 shots from the floor, and shot 45 percent from beyond-the-arc with a 10-for-22 effort.

Yuba shot 41 percent overall, and made just four of its 18 shots, or 22 percent, from 3-point range. Yuba also went 8-for-14 from the free-throw line for a 57 percent mark. Josh Dhatt led Yuba with 20 points. Bates came off the bench to provide 13 points for Yuba.

Following Hancock's come-from-behind win, Victor Valley erased a one-point halftime deficit to beat Napa Valley 65-69 in the third-place game. Ohlone and Copper Mountain tip off at 5 p.m. in the championship game.

Hancock will return to action December 6 at Santa Monica.
