Balanced Attack Leads Hancock Men's Basketball to 102-79 Win Over Oxnard at L.A. Southwest Classic

Devin Davis scored a career-high 19 points, and Shane Carney recorded his first double-double of the season to help the Allan Hancock College men's basketball team rout Oxnard 102-79 in the consolation round of the L.A. Southwest Classic on Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs snapped a two-game slide to improve to 7-5 overall, while the Condors, a Western State Conference foe, dropped to 0-8. The Bulldogs will face L.A. Valley in the consolation championship Saturday at 1 p.m. The Monarchs defeated Santa Barbara City College 76-42 on Friday.

Hancock never trailed against the Condors and turned a 10-7 lead into a 24-10 advantage with a 14-3 run over a five-minute period in the first half. The Bulldogs shot 60 percent in the first half and drained five 3-pointers to build a 50-36 lead at halftime. Freshman Diego Lucas, making his first start, hit four shots, including three from long-range, to lead Hancock with 11 first-half points, while sophomore Shane Carney added nine points and five assists in the opening 20 minutes.

The Bulldogs outscored the Condors 52-43 in the second half to eclipse 100 points for the second time this season. Overall, Hancock sank 42 of its 75 shots from the field, or 56 percent. The Bulldogs went 8-for-21 from 3-point range and hit 10-of-17 free throws.

Five Bulldogs scored 13 or more points. Davis led the way with 19 points on 9-for-14 shooting to go with seven rebounds and two assists. Carney finished with 17 points by shooting 5-for-12 overall and sinking 4-of-8 from 3-point range. The sophomore tied his career high with 10 rebounds for his third career double-double. Carney added six assists and two steals. Kevin Baines threw in 16 points and four rebounds by shooting 6-for-9 overall. Spirit Ricks fell one rebound shy of a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds. Lucas continued to earn playing time with a 5-for-8 effort from the field, including a 3-for-6 day from beyond-the-arc. The native of Italy added five rebounds and four assists.

Freshman guard Glenn Jordan added eight points, four rebounds and four assists off the bench, while John Reddick contributed eight points and eight rebounds.

The Bulldogs pulled 19 offensive rebounds and 58 rebounds overall. Ricks pulled down five offensive boards and nine overall, while half of Riddick's eight rebounds came on the offensive end.

Hancock outrebounded the Condors 58 to 30 and held Oxnard to 34 percent shooting from the field. Oxnard sank 13 3-pointers on 40 attempts.
