Hancock Wins Consolation Championship, Beats Pasadena Behind Dominant Second Half

For the second straight day, the Allan Hancock College men's basketball overcame a halftime deficit with a dominant second half to earn a win at Cuesta College's Winter Classic. The Bulldogs erased a nine-point gap to defeat Pasadena City College 74-65 to win the consolation championship. The Bulldogs, who trailed L.A. Harbor by five at halftime Saturday only to win by 18 points, improved to 12-7 on the season. The Lancers dropped to 8-8.

Freshman guard Glenn Jordan scored all 13 of his points in the second half to help fuel the Bulldogs' comeback. Hancock outscored PCC 43-25 in the final 20 minutes after trailing 40-31 at halftime.

Shane Carney led four Hancock double-digit scorers with 16 points. He scored 10 points and hit two 3-pointers in the second half alone. Carney finished with a team-best seven assists. Jordan added eight rebounds and two assists to go with his 13 points. Spirit Ricks also finished with 13 points, nine came in the first half. Ricks added nine rebounds, including five on the offensive end.

Devin Davis (pictured below) recorded a double-double for the second game in a row with 11 points and a career-best 14 rebounds. The sophomore scored nine of his points in the second half. He finished 5-of-6 from the free-throw line to help earn his fourth double-double of the year. Davis was named to the All-Tournament Team after averaging 12 points and 9.3 rebounds during the weekend.

Diego Lucas added nine points and five assists off the bench for the Bulldogs. Javae Lampkins, who sank five 3-pointers on Saturday, added two more on Sunday to finish with six points.

Overall, Hancock hit eight 3-point buckets in the game, and shot 70 percent from the free-throw line by sinking 14 of 20.

The consolation championship title was the team's third of the season, adding to the consolation crowns won at L.A. Southwest and Hancock's Home Motors Tournament.

Hancock returns to action Wednesday, January 10, at Santa Monica. The Bulldogs' final non-conference contest is a make-up game for one suspended last month due to the wildfires. After taking on Santa Monica, Hancock will travel to Ventura Saturday, January 13 to open Western State Conference play against the Pirates at 7 p.m.
