Bulldogs Close Preseason With 89-79 Win at Santa Monica Behind Carney and Davis

Devin Davis scored a career-high 23 points and Shane Carney recorded his second double-double of the season to lead the Allan Hancock College men's basketball team to an 89-79 win at Santa Monica Wednesday evening. The game was a make-up contest for one previously scheduled for December, but postponed due to the wildfires. Hancock closed its preseason with a 13-7 record, while the Corsairs fell to 3-13.

Davis racked up 23 points, eight rebounds, five on the offensive end, and four assists. Carney hit five 3-point buckets to finish with 17 points and dished out a season-high 10 assists.

Carney scored nine points and Davis added 14 of his own in the first half to help the Bulldogs carry a 48-37 lead into intermission.

Glenn Jordan added 11 points, five assists and three rebounds. Spirit Ricks and Javae Lampkins scored eight points apiece. Ricks and freshman forward Trenton Mitchell pulled down seven rebounds each. Mitchell also contributed six points.

Hancock hit eight 3-pointers in the victory, six came in the first half.

The Bulldogs won by 10 points despite hitting 9-of-19 free throws in the second half. Hancock sank 15 of 27 overall or 55 percent.

Hancock will open Western State Conference play Saturday, Jan. 13, at 5 p.m. at Ventura College. The Bulldogs are looking for their first conference title since the 2014-15 season
