Hancock Men's Basketball Runs by Moorpark 88-74, Remains Tied for First Place in WSC

Shane Carney and Glenn Jordan scored 20 points apiece, and Spirit Ricks recorded his second straight double-double to lead the Allan Hancock College men's basketball team to an 88-74 win at Moorpark on Wednesday evening. The Bulldogs, winners of six straight games, improved to 6-1 in conference and 19-8 overall. Moorpark dropped to 3-4 in league and 10-14 overall. The six-game winning streak is the program's longest since winning six straight during the preseason of the 2012-13 season.

Down 14-11 with 13:54 to play in the first half, the Bulldogs went on a 12-2 run over the next 2:30 to build a 23-16 lead. Hancock never trailed the rest of the way as the Bulldogs carried a 44-35 lead into halftime. Jordan led the Bulldogs in the first half with two 3-pointers and 10 points. Carney hit three 3-point buckets to enter halftime with nine points. Hancock shot 57 percent in the first half, and went 5-for-10 from long-range.

Carney added 11 points and Devin Davis scored nine in the second half as Hancock outscored the Raiders 44-39 in the final 20 minutes. A 3-point bucket by Davis with 14:54 to play gave Hancock its largest lead of the game at 58-39. Moorpark never got closer than seven points the rest of the way.

Jordan went 6-for-9 overall from the floor and 3-for-6 from long-range in the game. The freshman went 5-for-6 from the free-throw line to finish with a career-best 20 points. He added four assists and three steals.

Carney finished 5-for-11 from the floor and 3-for-7 from beyond-the-arc. The sophomore went 7-for-8 from the line to compile 20 points to go along with three rebounds and two swipes.

Ricks finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season. The freshman went 4-for-8 from the floor and made four of his six free-throw attempts. Sophomore guard Devin Davis contributed 14 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Bulldogs.

Trenton Mitchell added seven points, while John Riddick added six points, and Diego Lucas finished with four points, five assists and three rebounds.

Overall, Hancock hit 27-of-51 shots from the field or 53 percent. The Bulldogs went 7-for-17 from the 3-point line and 27-for-34 from the line. Hancock outrebounded the Raiders 33 to 26.

Moorpark shot 46 percent in the game. Cole Micek led the Raiders with 19 points, while Garrett Bilby added 17.

Ventura kept pace with Hancock with an 84-70 win at home against Cuesta. The Bulldogs and Pirates are both 6-1 in conference play with three league games remaining.

Hancock returns home to host Santa Barbara on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 5 p.m. The Bulldogs are 2-0 against SBCC this season. Hancock defeated the Vaqueros 83-65 in the preseason during the Home Motors Tournament, and handled SBCC on the road 75-61 in a conference game last month. On a12-game losing skid, the Vaqueros are 0-7 in league and 1-19 overall.
