Men's Basketball: Win Streak Snapped in 86-70 Loss at Ventura

VENTURA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College men's basketball program fell, 86-70, to the league-leading Ventura College Pirates in a road test on Monday evening. | BOX SCORE

Ventura (25-2, 11-0 WSC) came out hot and built towards a 30-18 advantage through the first 10 minutes of action. A jumper from Amari Stroud sparked an 11-0 run to bring the Bulldogs (16-9, 8-2 WSC) back within one with five minutes to go. Teams exchanged baskets down the final stretch of the opening half, with neither leading by more than one possession, which resulted in a one-point advantage for the hosts at the intermission. A fastbreak layup by Vondre Chase capped off an early 6-0 skid for the Bulldogs, giving them their first lead of the evening with just over 17 minutes remaining. Teams continued back-and-forth action over the next several minutes, but two big scoring strings in favor of Ventura put the game away down the stretch.

Stroud led the Bulldogs in scoring with a 27 point performance while adding seven rebounds, one block, one steal, and one assist. Matt Solomon tacked on 15 points after a 6-for-14 showing from the floor, including three made shots from distance, while Vondre Chase added nine. Bryce Craver posted a pair of team-high marks after grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out three assists. Noah Haaland nabbed six boards and led all defenders in the contest with two blocked shots.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, February 23rd, with a road trip to Oxnard College.
