Bio

Fermin is the lead assistant coach and recruiting coordinator in his fourth season for the Hancock men’s basketball program. Born in the Dominican Republic, Fermin grew up in New York City. 

During his high school career, Fermin attended John F Kennedy in the Bronx, NY where he was coached by New York City coaching legend Johnny Mathis and NBA Hall of Famer Nate “Tiny” Archibald. Fermin went on finishing his 4 year varsity high school career averaging 25PPG, 8APG and 8RPG, capturing a NYC PSAL City Championship in Madison Square Garden and NYC 2005 First Team/Player of the honors. Fermin continues his basketball career collegiately attending Missouri State West Plains and Hagerstown Community College in Hagerstown Maryland. He was named All State First Team/Maryland averaging 19PPG and 8APG leading the Hawks to a 24-10 winning season.

  Fermin graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a bachelor’s degree in history. During his senior season, he led the Big West Conference with 119 assists, and helped the Mustangs reach the program’s second-highest victory total in 18 Division I-seasons with major wins over USC & Fresno State.  After graduation, Fermin played alongside NBA players Al Horford, Karl Anthony Towns and Francisco Garcia on the Dominican Republican National Team that under the direction of John Calipari won a gold medal in the 2012 CentroBasket Championships. Fermin’s professional basketball career spanned four years for teams in Cyprus, Greece, Finland, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.

Fermin has discovered a passion for helping young athletes succeed. In January 2016, he founded 6th Man Basketball Academy, a co-ed AAU program for children ages 7-18 that offers development of life-long skills on and off the court though year-round travel teams, camps and clinics.

Fermin stresses the mantra, “Fully Focused,” to emphasize the importance of staying focused every day. It's become the mantra of the Hancock men's basketball program.
