Bio

Aye enters his 11th season as the head coach of the Allan Hancock College men's basketball team in the 2023-24 season. Prior to the pandemic, Aye led the Bulldogs to back-to-back 23-win campaigns, the program’s most successful stretch since winning 26 games in 1987-88, 1988-89, and 1989-90. 

Throughout his stint at the helm, Aye has led the Bulldogs to 125+ victories, four postseason appearances, and one conference title. Last season, Hancock finished with an overall record of 18-11 and picked up the No. 17 seed in the SoCal Regional Tournament after finishing third in the northern division of the Western State Conference. Five members of Aye's crew were named to the All-Conference list and seven moved on to continue their playing careers at the four-year level. 

In 2018, Aye guided the Bulldogs to the program’s first appearance Elite Eight at the CCCAA State Tournament in 44 seasons. He also led the Bulldogs to a share of the Western State Conference title in 2014-15, securing the program’s first in four years and 17th in program history. 

In addition to the success on the court, Aye has a strong history of helping student-athletes earn scholarships and/or opportunities to continue their athletic and academic endeavors and has helped more than 55 student-athlete continue their collegiate careers at the next level. Click here for a detailed list of where former men's basketball players have landed after wearing a Bulldogs uniform. 

Prior to Hancock, Aye spent eight years as the head coach of the men’s basketball team at Imperial Valley College, where he led the team to back-to-back Pacific Coast Conference championships in 2007 and 2008. He was named the Conference Coach of the Year in both seasons. The Imperial Valley Arabs traveled to Santa Maria in 2012 and beat the Bulldogs 79-72 in a first-round playoff game. Aye taught physical education and health at Imperial Valley College and was voted Employee of the Year by his fellow instructors, administrators, and students in 2008.

Aye has experience both playing and coaching at the community college level. He began his college career at Fresno City College playing point guard for his father, Denny Aye. He earned a scholarship to Concordia University in Irvine, where he was a two-time Academic All-American and helped lead his team to the Elite 8 in the NAIA National Tournament.

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, Aye landed his first coaching job as an assistant at San Jose State University, where he earned a master’s degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in human performance and sports management.

Aye returned to community college basketball in 2002 as an assistant coach for two seasons at San Jose City College under California Community College Men’s Basketball Coaching Association Hall of Fame coach Percy Carr. He then coached one season with his father at Marshalltown Community College helping the team to its best season in school history, 25 wins, and a runner-up finish in the National Junior College Athletic Association Region XI championships.
