Hancock Golfers Place at State Tournament

                Matt Sobczak and Austin Kaiser represented Allan Hancock College as individuals at the state championship tournament on Monday, May 16 and both returned with top ten scores. Kaiser placed fifth in the state out of 60 golfers with a total score of 147, 76 in the first round and 71 in the second. Sobczak shot a 74 and 74 to place eighth.

             
           “They played well under pressure and I think they had a good time too,” said head coach Mike Denne.

             
          As a team Hancock placed third in the conference this season and qualified for the SoCal Regionals. Denne said his goal for next season is to take the entire team to the state tournament. Both Sobczak and Kaiser are freshmen and plan to return for another season of golf.

              
          “Getting fifth in the state was a great experience,” Kaiser said, and next year we’ll be even better as a team, so I’m excited.”
