Zimkowski started to play golf his freshman season at St. Joseph High School. He picked up the game quickly because he was named the Pac-7 League's Most Valuable Player his senior season. He earned the league's individual title by averaging 76.7 strokes per round.

Zimkowski is a recreation management major.
