Burrola and Zimkowski Tie for 38th at So Cal Regional

Allan Hancock College golfers Adam Burrola and Nick Zimkowski tied for 38th place at the Southern California Regional on Monday at the Bear Creek Golf and Country Club in Murrieta.

College of the Canyons won its third straight SoCal Regional title. The Western State Conference champions combined for a total score of 743. Canyons extended a six-stroke lead after the morning round to a 17-stroke win over second place Santiago Canyon (760). College of the Desert finished third with 765 and Orange Coast College came in fourth with 773 to secure the four team spots at the CCCAA State Championship on May 16 in Palm Springs.

Canyon's Will Barnett earned medalist honors with a combined score of 142 or two-under par. He fired a three-under 69 in the opening round, the only red score of the day.

The top six individual finishers who were not on a state-qualifying team also advanced to the state championships. Burrola, a freshman, and Zimkowski, a sophomore, both carded 15-over par 159. Each Bulldog shot a 76 in the opening round and 83 in the second round. Hancock freshman Alexander Linn carded a 97 and 92 for a total score of 189.

The regional marked the end of the Hancock season. The Bulldogs finished tied for fifth in the Western State Conference standings during the regular season. Zimkowski, a Righetti High School graduate, finished eighth in conference with an average round score of 77.0. Burrola finished 13th out of nearly 60 WSC golfers with an average round of 77.57
