Burrola and Bourke Lead Hancock Men's Golf in Season-Opening Pt. Conception Open

Sophomore Adam Burrola carded a 2-over par 74 Monday to lead the Allan Hancock College men's golf team to 11th place in the season-opening Pt. Conception Open men's golf tournament at La Purisima Golf Course.

Defending state champion College of the Canyons won the two-day, 14-team tournament with rounds of 375-368 for a total of 743 strokes. Cypress finished second by 29 strokes with a total 772, followed by Ventura (781), College of the Desert (784) and Santa Barbara City College (785). Hancock finished 11th with a first-day total of 421 and second-day score of 423 for a total of 844.

Ventura's Joey Herrera won the tournament with a total score of 145. Kieran Blundell of Mt. San Jacinto and Jones Comerford of Canyons tied for second with 146 to earn medalist honors.

Burrola shot an 83 on the par-72 course and a 74 on day two for a total of 157. Elliot Bourke shot 80 and 78 for a total score of 158. Freshman Jett Rugg finished third among the Bulldogs with a total score of 167 (81-87), followed by Righetti High School graduate Josiah Sanchez at 180 (88-92) and Nipomo High School graduate Bryan Tran with a final tally of182 (89-93).

Hancock will return to action next Monday, February 5, during the first Western State Conference match of the season, hosted by Canyons at the Valencia Country Club.
