Rugg and Hancock Men's Golf Finish Second During WSC #9

Playing on his home course, freshman Jett Rugg carded an even-par 72 to help the Allan Hancock College men's golf team to a second-place finish during the ninth Western State Conference Tournament of the season on Monday. Hancock hosted the tournament at its home course, the Santa Maria Country Club. The Bulldogs finished second in a conference tournament for the second time this season.

College of the Canyons finished first with a team score of 366. Hancock finished second with 380, ahead of Glendale with 386, Santa Barbara with 395, Ventura with 397, Bakersfield with 41, seventh place Antelope Valley had 429, and eighth-place Citrus had a team score of 437.

Canyons' Jones Comerford earned medalist honors with the low round of the day, a three-under 69. Rugg and three other golfers tied for second in the individual standings with 72.

Hancock's Elliot Bourke and Bryan Tran shot four-over 76 to tie for 10th in the 54-man field. Sophomore Adam Burrola and freshman Derrick Neiman carded 78s to tie for 15th overall.

After nine tournaments, Hancock sits fourth overall in the team standings with a 44-28 mark, trailing on first place Canyons (69-3), Santa Barbara (55-17) and Ventura (54-18).

The Bulldogs will compete in the Sandpiper Invitational next Monday.
