Hancock Men's Golf Finishes Ninth at SoCal Regional in First Team Appearance Since 2011

Freshman Derrick Neiman carded a 36-hole score of 158 and Elliot Bourke shot a 159 to lead the Allan Hancock College men's golf team during the Southern California Regional Championships Monday at the Bakersfield Country Club. Hancock made its first team appearance at regionals since 2011. The Bulldogs finished ninth in the team standings at regionals with a total score of 810.

College of the Canyons won the regional with a total score of 747, followed by Cypress with 758 in second place, Orange Coast in third with 761 and Riverside College in fourth with 774 strokes. Ventura came in fifth with 781, followed by Palomar with 785, College of the Desert with 796 and Santa Barbara with 801.

The top four teams and the best six individuals not on those four teams advanced to the state tournament. The 2018 CCCAA State Championships will take place Monday, May 14, at Sandpiper Golf Course in Goleta.

Neiman shot an 80 during his opening round and fired a 78 on the second 18. He missed the cut for a spot in the state tournament by five strokes. Bourke carded a 76 and 83. Sophomore Adam Burrola shot an 81 and 79 to tie teammate Jett Rugg, who tallied an 82 and 78. Freshman Bryan Tran finished with a total score of 173, while Josiah Sanchez carded a 36-hole score of 186.

Jones Comerford of Canyons was the medalist, shooting 74 and 69 for a 1-under 143. He finished two strokes ahead of Myoung Kim of Orange Coast and Matt Rafter of Cypress.
