Men's Golf: Johnathan Riley Advances to 3C2A State Championship

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Johnathan Riley has advanced to the big stage after a solid individual showing at the southern California Regional Championship at the Rio Bravo Country Club in Bakersfield on Sunday and Monday. | FULL RESULTS

The Morro Bay native carded a two-day, 36-hole score of 151 after registering a 73 in round one and a 78 in round two. Riley finished the event tied for 12th overall and for sixth on the list of participants competing solely as individuals. He becomes the first individual to represent the Bulldogs at the state level in nearly a decade when Alejandro Nicolini ('15) made the cut and just the sixth overall in the last 15 years (Austin Kaiser, '12; Matt Sobczak, '11; Austin Kaiser, '11; Levi Garcia, '09). 

Tiger Tahvildari of Orange Coast College was the individual medalist with a final tally of 139 (70/69), followed by BingCheng Zheng of Riverside City College (141-70/71) and Berkecem Renda of Cypress College (143-72/71). 

Riley will be one of 60 participants to compete at the 3C2A Men's Golf State Championship, hosted at the Sandpiper Golf Course in Goleta, on May 12-13. The full field of competitors is comprised of four teams and six individuals from both the North and the South.
